Pylon Signs
Odds are that you know what a pylon sign is, even if you cannot define it. A pylon sign is a usually an internally illuminated cabinet mounted atop one or two steel poles. Sometimes these poles are enclosed to create a more artistic, monument effect. The distinct difference between pylon signs and monument signs is that pylons are longer in height while monuments are longer in width.
Often, pylon signs are used by shopping centers to display tenants in their plaza. They are visible and clearly depict which companies are open for business. Conversely, a single business can also opt in for a pylon sign. Driving down a busy highway, you might see a pylon sign towering over the trees beckoning you to take the next exit—and that’s the point. A pylon sign commands attention and sparks interest, whether its business is popular or not.
